Open air cinemas are popping up all over the place this spring and summer: in the grounds of castles and stately homes, on cricket pitches and Royal crescents.

Yeovil, Fri 13 – Sun 15 May

Watch: It’s all singin’ and dancin’ in Yeovil with Adventure Cinema’s West Side Story, Mamma Mia and A Star is Born .

Where: The 40-acre Yeovil Showground just outside of town.

Scoff & quaff: Amrore wood-fired pizza or your own picnic.

Moreton, near Dorchester, Sat 21 May

Watch: Garlic and upturned crosses at the ready for the classic 1922 vampire flick Nosferatu, with musicians providing a live soundtrack.

Where: The Walled Garden in Moreton, a gorgeous, landscaped 5-acre formal garden; the one-off event is part of Dorset Art Weeks.

Scoff & quaff: Bring your own picnic and/or take advantage of the BBQ and booze available to buy on the night.

Cadbury House, Congesbury, Fri 1 July

Watch: Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? No, it’s real: Bohemian Rhapsody is playing for one night only.

Where: In the rather lovely grounds of the 4-star boutique hotel and spa, the DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House. Pop yourself into one of their deckchairs or bring your own camping chairs and blankets.

Scoff & quaff: Stuff to eat and drink on site (no picnics allowed).

Watch: There’s something for everyone from Encanto, Mamma Mia, West Side Story, Jurassic Park and Rocketman to Pulp Fiction at these Adventure Cinema screenings.

Where: On the city’s rolling green downs.

Scoff & quaff: Bring a picnic but you have to buy your booze there.

Watch: Choice of three from Adventure Cinema, West Side Story, Mamma Mia and The Rocky Horror Show.

Where: On the lawns in front of a Grade II-listed 19th century manor house sitting in 17 beautiful acres.

Scoff & quaff: Hot food, snacks and a bar but you can bring your own picnic.

Lulworth Castle, Dorset, East Lulworth, near Wareham, Tues 9 – Thurs 11 August

Watch: The 27th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man: No Way Home, West Side Story and perennial fave Grease.

Where: On a giant Luna Cinema HD LED screen in the grounds of the 17th century Lulworth Castle. BYO rugs and picnic chairs or rent one of their directors chairs, date night double deckchairs or go all out snuggled up on a Luna Luxe sofa with blanket, fizz and firepit.

Scoff & quaff: Drinks from the Luna Bar, street food from The Duck & Chicken, popcorn, snacks and Little Moons frozen rice mochi balls.

BH Live, Littledown Park, Bournemouth, Fri 26 – Sun 28 Aug

Watch: Have the time of your life with Patrick Swazye in Dirty Dancing, relive Abba’s greatest hits with Meryl and co in Mamma Mia; kids will love Disney’s Encanto, from Adventure Cinema.

Where: The 47-acres of parkland is a sport and leisure venue by day; open air cinema by night.

Scoff & quaff: Bring a picnic.

Bath Royal Crescent, Lower Lawn, Marlborough Lane, Bath, Fri 16 & Sat 17 Sept

Watch: A coupla musicals to set the toes tapping, West Side Story and Moulin Rouge, from Luna Cinema.

Where: On the lawns of Royal Crescent with the iconic Georgian buildings as a backdrop. Watch from a directors chair, double deckchair, Luna Luxe sofa – or your own rug.

Scoff & quaff: Gourmet crêpes from Hjälpande Händer Catering, a non-profit charity employing young adults with learning difficulties, popcorns, crisps, sweets (including a Luna Retro box), Little Moons mochi balls and Luna Bar.

Taunton, Fri 16 – Sun 18 Sept

Watch: West Side Story, Mamma Mia and The Rocky Horror Show (will you be dressing up?) by Adventure Cinema.

Where: On the pitch of the Taunton Deane Cricket Club.

Scoff & quaff: BYO picnics, blankets and chairs.

Watch: Luna Cinema presents Daniel Craig in his fifth and last iteration as 007 in No Time to Die, Spielberg’s West Side Story and Dirty Dancing.

Where: Under the stars on the lawns of the Italianate mansion. Bring rugs and picnic chairs.

Scoff & quaff: Booze from the Luna Bar, snacks, popcorn and Little Moons Mochi (Japanese rice balls) and local food.
