Yass Queens! Six Education lessons have never been so hot…
The killer Queens are back in a scintillating blaze of 21st century Girl Power - and coming to the Theatre Royal Bath in November/December. Bring it!
From the electric opening song to the wild standing ovation, the high octane show SIX: Divorced, Beheaded Live proves there ain’t no party like a dead queens’ party! The hit show’s coming to the Theatre Royal Bath from Mon 29 Nov to Sat 11 Dec. Cate, Editor of Muddy Stilettos Norfolk, reviewed the show when it was on in Norwich.
Killing it for 80 fierce minutes (no interval so plenty of time for after-show cocktails – love!) six Tudor Queens grab the mic for a full-throated sing-off, competing to see who took the most sh*t from their shared monster of a husband, Henry VIII. Yeah, that guy in support tights who liked to chop and change his wives.
Subtle it ain’t. Belting through power ballads, R&B and techno with fabulously witty lyrics – “Tried to elope but the Pope said nope” these sisters sing the house down. There’s a Queenspiration for each wife. Catherine of Aragon (Lauren Drew) pulses Beyoncé sass, Jane Seymour (Caitlin Tipping) echoes soulful Adele and Norfolk’s fave beheaded babe Anne Boleyn (Jennifer Caldwell) channels cheeky Lily Allen. Stream the soundtrack to check out all SIX!
The all-girl band shares the stage in studded masks and the fabulously glitzy costumes flash with crystal bling. We loved Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard’s diamond chokers – ooh wonder how those two met their deaths? Pretty ruff, right?
In place of a curtain call, the Queens encourage the audience to film the encore number ‘Megasix’ and share it on socials. Phones out girls!
More like being at a gig than the theatre, my teenage daughters were on a historic high and immediately wanted to see it again. People lose their heads over SIX and the audience was buzzing with tribute hairstyles. Who says revisionist feminist historians don’t wear space buns?
Take Hamilton, shake with Lucy Worsley and chuck in a whole lotta Spice, Girls! That’s how Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss cooked up a ‘Historemixed’ pop-concert musical whilst still studying for their Cambridge degrees. Who even cares about a first when you’ve been streamed over 100 million times and rule the realm of TikTok?
We’re not surprised it’s won pretty much every award going except Bake-Off, but give ’em time and these Pop Princesses will probably nab that as well.
Best tour in the whole Queendom. Time to SIX it up. Sorry (not sorry!)
PS. You’ll love our fave line “try these heels, so high it’s naughty, but we can’t guarantee you’ll still walk at 40”. Hey – no-one said wearing stilettos was easy. But we’ve known that for centuries, haven’t we ladies?
