Say hello to Carole Waller's range of hand-painted clothing.
The internationally acclaimed Bath-based textile artist Carole Waller paints with dye directly onto fabric, so each shirt, jacket, coat, scarf and dress is a one off original painting. It’s classy: her work can be seen in the V&A and has been sold in Harvey Nichols, Liberty’s of London and Bergdorf in New York.
Scaffolding, her latest collection in her ‘I’m no canvas label’, has been inspired by architectural images and iconic portraits – from Sulis Minerva (a gilt bronze head of the Roman goddess was found near the Roman Baths in Bath) to Renaissance paintings. Venetian palaces, the textures of stones, reflections in water – and yeah, even scaffolding up around the city.
The colours are rich and dark with explosions of gold, fuschia pink, lavender, Venetian red, cobalt blue and rust. Wear her stuff and you can’t help but feel uplifted.
She uses opulent fabrics: silk, velvet, heavy crepe; textured silks for jackets and shirts, and silk chiffon and fine wool for shawls.
Designed to flatter and easy to wear.
Prices range from £45 for small silk scarves and between £250 – £1,250 for dresses, jackets and shirts. She creates bespoke gear, too.
