Cool clobber to get fit in

Get Sporty! Activewear from a Somerset company that looks good, feels good – and is helping support women's sport

You could pull on a shapeless old t-shirt and baggy leggings to go for a run, the gym or yoga class but frankly, wouldn’t you prefer to be wearing this cool clobber?  Boudavida‘s activewear looks good, feels good – and you’ll even be helping to support women and girls in sport, too.

Anabel Sexton and her daughter Gabrielle (who’s still at school by the way) set up Somerset activewear company Boudavida – a name inspired by the ultimate strong woman Queen Boudicca – to create a range of fitness clothing that would help women feel good about their bodies and inspire them to get more active.

I don’t have to tell you their stuff looks good. But it’s also perfectly fit for purpose. So this plucky little vest – for yoga, pilates or a game of squash? – is lightweight and has a T-back that give complete freedom of movement. The leggings are stretchy and supportive enough for everything from boxing to badminton, and have breathable mesh panels that just happen to give instant slim. I’ve heard you can work up a sweat when you’re exercising, so you’ll be glad to hear that fabrics are moisture-wicking  (drawing moisture away from the skin to the outside of the fabric) and fast-drying.

Plucky vest, white (also available in green) £48 and Jazzy gym leggings, pink/geo granite £75.

Lots of thoughtful details, too.  The snuggly, fleece-lined jersey Valiant Hoodie has a small zipped pocket on the sleeve for your phone or keys, the Resolve jacket (loving these names) has a zipped pocket on the back – and both have thumb loops to stop the sleeves riding up your arms when you’re running.

Valiant hoodie in rose ( also in granite) £90 and Resolve jacket (also in Black) £110.

That’s not the end of the story. Did you know that less than half a per cent of all commercial money invested in sport in the UK goes into women’s sport?  Boudavida are doing their bit to help change that by donating 5 per cent of each sale to projects that support women and girls’ sport. You can even apply to be a recipient yourself. They sponsor events too, like the annual Boudavida Windsor 10k, a race around Windsor Great Park open to women of all ages and level from novices to club runners on Sat 23 Sept. Want to join in? You can register here.

Of course, you could always just slip on a comfy Boudavida top and leggings and slouch on the sofa. As if.

You can buy Boudavida tops, bottoms, underwear and outerwear at Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet, DEKA in Frome, Rose & Lyon in Bruton – or online.
