It's mahoosive, magnifcent and a stunning mix of old and new but aha my little snoops: can you guess the price?
A new house for those of you who like to perv at property! Guess within £5k of the asking price and get your stamp duty discounted on your next house purchase. Yes *cough*, really!
The Well House really is a corker – contemporary luxe style, energy efficient tech, reclaimed stone, reclaimed floorboards, flagstones – with five beds, five bathrooms and six receptions including a mahoosive party room. Binoculars at the ready? Let’s go nose…
We’re off to an impressive start with this lofty hallway, double height, traditional flags and – Romeos and Juliets – check out that galleried landing.
Isn’t the kitchen the heart of the house? If so, this house sure has a big heart – 12oo square feet big, in fact. Polished concrete and reclaimed wood work surfaces atop handmade Chalon style units (swoon), flagstone floor with underfloor heating (no slippers required) and an eco-friendly solar powered 4-oven Aga (no, I never knew they existed either) – show how the house combine the traditional with 21st century technology. Fab for family and friends get-togethers, with a large dining area next to glazed doors opening out onto the garden and cosy seating around a small fireplace. There’s a separate dining room too.
In case you were wondering where to put your baby grand…. The music room is just off the kitchen, so strains of Rach 3 or scales can waft across as you’re preparing yet another gourmet supper/opening a can of beans.
Chill out in the main drawing room – love the mix of traditional (barn doors, flags and fireplace) with contemporary (full height windows, angles and space) – or pay some bills in the study next door
It’s gonna be party central here, isn’t it? Not only is this space vast, with a ceiling that soars up to the apex of the roof, but it also comes complete with a bar, fireplace, a shower room, a large guest room above and some chandeliers to swing from. Party as loud as you like – the house sits in five acres.
There are five beds and five bathrooms (no queuing in the mornings here). The main bedroom suite is, frankly, flipping gorgeous, with a dressing room and en suite bathroom, reclaimed Victorian floorboards, extravagantly angled ceilings and doors opening out onto a terrace with stress-relieving views.
Your little look of calm….
The main room’s en suite’s pretty darned nice too, don’t you think? The claw foot bath’s calling out for a slosh of bubbles (and some bubble bath) and the double shower’s calling out for you and [add the name of your own dream squeeze – I’m thinking Ryan Gosling].
You can park guests or Jeeves in their own sweet little one-bed cottage.
The house sits in five acres of land, with the chance to purchase a further three, so there’s scope for for a tennis court, swimming pool, stables, Formula One circuit, a Big Top…
So where is it? On the edge of the village of Butleigh, not far from Glastonbury – nice and rural with more hills, woods, farmland than you can shake a stick at. All the basic amenities: shop, post office, pub (which I’ve not been to but I’ve heard is excellent), nursery, primary school and – get your bats out – an excellent cricket club. More shops in nearby Street, Glastonbury, Somerton, Wells and Castle Cary; city buzz an hour away in Bath and Bristol. Very well placed for very good independent schools: Millfield, Wells Cathedral School, Hazlegrove Prep, All Hallows Prep and the Bruton schools. State schools include the ‘outstanding’ Strode College and The Blue School in Wells.
You can get to London Paddington by train from nearby Castle Cary in under two hours and to Glasto at Worthy Farm in about 20 minutes. The A303 linking London with the South West is a short drive to the south. The rest of the world is accessible from Bristol and Exeter Airports, each about an hour away.
So my lovelies, how many spondulicks will you have to gather up to buy this fab pad? Add your guess to the comment box and then see if you’re right…
