Superflashy newsflash!

It's Somerset and Dorset's biggest blabbermouth reporting for duty - yes ma'am. Here's this week's news bulletin including a new pub, cafe and food market, new interiors store ...

Good to see these exciting new businesses opening or about to open across Somerset and Dorset.

NEW cafe, food and gift store in South Cadbury, Somerset

Opening in September, the brand new Teals Somerset – just off the A303 between North and South Cadbury, and a stone’s throw away from Cadbury Castle, King Arthur’s Camelot – will be serving up locally sourced grub in their cafe and two courtyards or to takeaway, selling locally sourced meat, veg, breads, deli and more as well as independent-label, sustainable gifts in the shop. Set alongside a 100-year old cider orchard and surrounded by stunning Somerset scenery, sounds like Teals will be providing sustenance for the soul as well as the body.

NEW food store and bakery in Bridport, Dorset

The self-described ‘convenience store’ and newly opened Rise Market & Bakery in Bridport stocks a fab selection of fresh meat, fish, cheese, fruit, veg, flowers, wine, craft beer, home wares, takeaway grub and more from some of the best ethical, local suppliers across the South West and beyond – and bakes the most scrumptious sourdoughs and pastries. Get yourself over there pronto.

NEW interiors store in Somerton, Somerset

Home and lifestyle store Sitting Pretty Homeware has just landed in Somerton. Run by aunt and niece duo Maria and Sadie, it’s not on the high street so you won’t just come across them when you’re mooching around town, so head over to the Wessex Park estate on the edge of Somerton, or check ’em out online. We’re loving their range of recycled glass lamp bases. Free UK delivery and 15% off on your first order.

New foodie pub with rooms in Dorchester, Dorset

We’ve got window envy! From the people behind the boutique inns The Swan in Wedmore, The Grosvenor Arms in Shaftesbury and The White Hart in Somerton comes The King’s Arms, opening Thurs 17 September. The 300-year-old hotel has links with Thomas Hardy and previous guests include Queen Victoria, King George IV, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. With £5 million spent on the refurb – antique finds alongside upcycled lighting and contemporary design – and award-winning chef Tom Blake overseeing the menus, we’re expecting great stuff.

REBORN seaside restaurant in Lyme Regis, Dorset

Mark Hix has just launched his new Oyster & FIsh House on the same site as his previous incarnation: so on the Lyme Regis hillside overlookingThe Cobb and Jurassic Coast. It does what it says on the can: locally sourced fish and seafood on menus which change twice a day depending on the catch. Starters might include crispy oyster and sugar pit bacon salad, linguine with Poole cockles, chilli and garlic; mains grilled Lyme Bay lobster with garlic butter and Thornback ray with capers, lemon and parsley and moreish puds. Vegetarian and kids’ menus too.
