Anna Bucknall, Barrecorre and Cardio Barre
Release your inner ballerina (no talent required) with this dance-inspired fitness discipline, which strengthens, tones and sculpts your body, boosts energy levels and promotes the lean physique of a dancer.
Want to strengthen and tone your muscles but not bulk up? Or you’d like to get fitter but spinning, gym workouts or a fitness bootcamp aren’t your thing?
Anna Bucknall’s brilliant ballet-based barrecorre and cardio corre classes, which ‘sculpt’ your muscles, improve your posture (and give you a perkier bottom and flatter stomach), might be the answer.
The name comes from the barre that ballet dancers use in their classes and ballet exercises form the basis of the technique. You don’t need to have any dance experience and it’s suitable for anyone of any age.
Barrecorre combines posture and movement inspired by ballet and other fitness disciplines (not just ballet), targets different muscle groups, increases strength and improves posture, which helps towards developing the lean physique of a dancer.
Add in weights and continual fat burning motion – with great music to keep you going – and you’ve got cardio barre. This high energy version of barrecorre includes toning exercises for the bottom, legs, body and arms to help sculpt muscles and elongate the appearance of your body.

All you need is a bit of space, the back of a chair or a kitchen work surface to use as a barre, 2kg and 1 kg weights (if you’re doing the cardio barre), and a glass of water to keep you hydrated.
