The Bristol Lido

With an infinity pool, poolside restaurant and bar, outdoor hot tub and spa, it's the closest you'll get to the Med in the city.

A lazy swim in a turquoise infinity pool, some time in the spa (maybe a massage?), followed by an alfresco glass of something cool and a plate or three of tapas, poolside.  Sound good to you?  Thought so. Then pop your bod over to the fabulous Bristol Lido. Hidden amongst the pastel coloured Georgian houses of Clifton, it’s the closest you’ll get to the Med in the city.

Dating back to 1849, the Lido is one of the oldest surviving pools in the UK and open all year round, with a 24m outdoor heated pool and hot tub; a spa with sauna, steam room and range of massages using their own Lido Spa products; and an award-winning restaurant and bar.

Unless you’re a member, the 24m heated pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub are open to the public from Monday to Friday from 1pm –4pm or you can book one of their packages.  Standalone massages can be booked every day.

The Swim and Eat packages are brilliant value. You can come for a swim and use the sauna, steam room and hot tub and nosh on breakfast, a la carte lunch or dinner from £35.

Go the whole (luxury) hog with the longer Spa Packages which includes all the pool and spa facilities, holistic massage plus a meal in the restaurant, from £95.

Overlooking the pool on the original viewing gallery, the restaurant is totally laid back (no need to change out of your bathrobe), with floor to ceiling windows that slide wide open and a moreish Moorish/Mediterranean/Spanish influenced menu created by acclaimed chef Freddie Bird.

The bar’s on the ground floor, with tables at the edge of the pool. Nice.

Come for coffee and cake, breakfast, lunch, tapas or dinner – you can just drop in to eat, you don’t even have to swim or spa – but why wouldn’t you?
