The Bull Inn, Bruton
Sister to the Roth Bar & Grill, this is a good ol' traditional Somerset pub through and through, with beams, brasses, cut-above pub grub – right down to the highly patterned carpet.
Tucked away down a winding lane just outside Bruton, The Bull Inn near Kingsettle Hill, South Brewham is the latest addition to the growing eat-drink-sleep empire of pioneering world class art gallery Hauser & Wirth, and sister to the renowned Roth Bar & Grill.
Despite the involvement of the cutting edge gallery there are no giant Louise Bourgeois spiders or other installation art to be seen here. The Bull Inn is a traditional Somerset country pub through and through, complete with brasses and beams, Windsor chairs and wood-burning stoves, pints and patterned carpet and with a big beer garden to boot.
The grub is cut-above pub classics, so starters like smoked haddock and dill fishcakes, pigeon breast with roast beetroot salad; mains like a Bull burger, steak, fish & chips; puds sticky toffee, apple and berry crumble. All kinds of beers and craft ales and more, on tap. Get the picture?
Before or after lunch, head five mins up the hill to Alfred’s Tower on Kingsettle Hill – the views across Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset from the top of the 49m high folly tower are spectacular.
