Esme’s Escape

A luxury shepherd’s hut with log-fired hot tub in the village of Haselbury Plucknett, inspired by a 1940s land girl's love story.

Back in the 1940s, Liverpudlian Esme was posted as a land girl to the village of Haselbury Plucknett in south Somerset, where she fell in love and married a local boy called Fred – and they lived happily ever after *sigh*.  Esme’s Escape, a luxury shepherd’s hut in an orchard in the grounds of their former home,  is an homage to their story.

A cosy and romantic hideaway, with vintage furniture, bone china crockery, a woodburner, black & white photos on the walls there are also mod cons like a nespresso machine, WiFi/USB charging points, a flushing loo and hot shower (phew).

A treat awaits you on your arrival, along with all the ingredients (locally sourced, natch) for your first breakfast, some logs and toiletries.

Sip prosecco in the log-fired hot tub, fire up the pizza oven/barbie, walk a couple of minutes to the foodie-favourite village pub or just cuddle up under the duvet and watch a wartime movie on the DVD.

Lots to do if you can bear to tear yourself away from your idyll: llama walks, fossil hunting, paddle boarding and countryside and coastal walks are all nearby.

Winner of Best Boutique Stay in the Somerset Muddy Awards 2019 – congratulations!
