The King’s Arms, Charlton Horethorne

A five star country pub and hotel in the village of Charlton Horethorne, right on the Dorset/Somerset border and ideally positioned for all the two counties have to offer.

Owners Tony and Sarah Lethbridge have created a luxurious country pub and hotel, combining the trad (the building dates back to 1813, with a impressive exterior and period features within) with contemporary comforts and excellent food.

Head for the bar and cosy snug, their elegant restaurant or out onto the terrace with views over the valley beyond for a drink, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.  Sarah and head chef Wayne Greenfield’s extensive classic/modern British menu has a soupçon of international flavours and everything’s made in house – even the pasta. Service is renowned.

The ten individually decorated en suite bedrooms are real gems – each one is named after a semi-precious stone – with marble wet rooms, rain showers, LCD flat screen TV, DVD player, phone, Wi-Fi and tea-making stuff.   Two rooms link to form a family room or they’ll put a Z bed or cot in the room.

Open seven days a week. Wheelchair accessible. Dogs welcome in the bar and gardens.  Game of croquet on the lawns, anyone?

Surrounded by gorgeous countryside walks and wildlife with lots to do close by, including the famous Jurassic coast, iconic Stourhead House & Gardens and historic Sherborne and its independent shops just down the road.

Great idea: gift vouchers for Sunday lunch, dinner, an overnight stay with breakfast or for a specified amount.
