Kitchen at the Wharf, Langport
From freshly baked sourdough and croissants to scrummy breakfasts, lunches and weekend brunches, the riverside Kitchen has upped the food ante in Langport.
Back in the day, Great Bow Wharf in Langport was a hive of activity with sea-faring ships delivering wares from around the globe. Today, the boats on the river are kayaks and canoes, and the beautifully restored Wharf building is home to the light and airy cafe called Kitchen at the Wharf.
All sorts of home-made cakes, tarts, salads and other stuff to tempt, artfully displayed on a long counter running almost the length of the cafe. Place your order for breakfast or for lunch – an eclectic menu that may include chickpea and quinoa with Asian salsa, slow-cooked beef, a mezze platter – or a sandwich. Come for brunch at weekends. Everything’s freshly made every day, using original recipes and local suppliers. Lots of the food is organic and there are plenty of options for the health conscious, vegetarians and vegans, too.
Find a cosy table for one, two or more; sit up on a high stool at a ledge along the edge; lounge on a sofa or head outside to the riverside terrace dotted with metal sculptures.
There’s a toy box for kids, treats for dogs and even a bicycle repair kit (it’s popular with cyclists).
Oh, and they’ll throw you a party, wedding celebration or any other kind of event if you ask them.
