The Chapel

Muddy says – Victorian Methodist chapel turned chic and luxurious country bolthole in the glorious north Somerset Chew Valley

I’ve been to a fair few converted churches and chapels over the years but none that have been restored and refurbished with such aplomb as The Chapel, a luxury countryside getaway in the tiny village of Ubley.

The austere Methodist chapel exterior hides a chic contemporary space.  In the main vast room with a ceiling that soars up to the roof and impressive cast iron chandelier, you can loll around on the huge squashy L-shaped sofa,  enjoy the state-of-the-art Sonos sound system and flat screen TV, play a tune or two on the baby grand piano or the original organ. Want to get onto your soapbox? There’s always the pulpit.  Slope off up to the glass and steel mezzanine gallery to sit in a cosy armchair and get a close up view of the stained glass window.

Out the back, there’s a beautiful and well-equipped kitchen with a large dining area, a separate utility room and downstairs loo. Upstairs, there are two luxe bedrooms with pretty views and a bathroom with a splendid copper roll top bath and a rain shower.

The Chapel is perfect for a weekend or longer for one couple or two, or a group of friends – or more if you put up the two z-beds on the mezzanine gallery.

Located in north Somerset’s glorious Chew Valley, you’ve got walks and all manner of countryside pursuits in your doorstep. Bristol and Bath are within easy reach if you need a city fix – but when you’re enjoying all of this, why would you want to?
