Meet Daniel Musselwhite
The Frome-based jeweller is one of the sparkliest stars on BBC's new series All That Glitters
Hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan and judged by industry experts Shaun Leane and the ever-so-slightly scary Solange Azagury-Partridge, the new BBC series All That Glitters follows a group of talented jewellers in the quest to find the best. And Frome-based Daniel Musselwhite is literally head and shoulders above the rest.
Named Jeweller of the Week in the first episode, he created this stunning necklace in a just a few hours, for a woman going to Buck House to receive a gong from Her Maj.
Dan started training to be a jeweller when he was just 16 and moved to Frome in 2019, where he now has a studio and shop in the community arts centre Black Swan Arts.
This is where the magic – and hard graft – takes place.
Drawing inspiration from his surroundings – the Mendips are on the doorstep – and an appreciation for Eastern culture, Dan’s work reflects the simplicity of nature and the fluidity of movement associated with Eastern martial arts.
The Water bangle – perfect for stacking with other bangles – is reminiscent of wind whipping up ripples on a lake.
These Lightning earrings, made from 9ct gold and silver, are part of Dan’s Storm collection.
It’s not just a silver lining in this Cloud ring; the entire piece is made from sterling silver with solid 9ct yellow gold.
Perfect for Spring, this pretty Blossom necklace, with flowers made from solid silver with delicate 9ct gold stamen.
If you’re looking for a wedding or engagement ring, or a special gift, Dan makes bespoke stuff by commission. All you need is an idea of budget, a starting point for the design (maybe something you’ve seen on Instagram or your own sketch, however scrappy), any preferences for materials (silver, gold, gemstones etc), and a timescale and Dan will come up with design ideas for you to agree together. Around three weeks later, your piece will be ready. Exciting, eh?
You can buy Dan’s collection online or visit him at Studio 9, Black Swan Arts in Frome, from Mon to Fri between 10am–4pm. And if you fancy yourself as future contestant on All That Glitters, book yourself onto one of his workshops and courses, pronto.
