Street food and handmade gifts from 60 indy sellers. Very handily, the vast Charlotte Street car park is just two minutes’ walk away.

Somerset Collective Christmas Pop Up Sale, Jordans Courtyard, near Ilminster, Sun 14 & Mon 15 Nov

Do all your Christmas shopping in one place – and help support a local charity. The Somerset Collective‘s 30 fab indie businesses from around the South West are at Jordans Courtyard, in support of local charity, The Rosie Crane Trust. Book a table at The Calf Shed cafe for lunch. 10am-4pm.

Christmas at Hestercombe, Cheddon Fitzpaine, near Taunton, Fri 19 – Sun 21 Nov

Locally-sourced gifts, treats and handcrafted stuff with moreish mince pies, creamy hot choc and mulled wine. Tickets are £5 but include admission to the gardens (walk through three centuries of garden design), house and art gallery, too.

The Christmas version of the totally fabulous monthly market. Designers, makers, craftspeople and artists of all kinds. Vintage clothing and collectibles. Delicious food. Live music. Santa. Not to be missed.

Bristol Christmas market, Broadmead, Bristol, Sun 5 – Thurs 23 Dec

Some 50 stalls in the centre of town with a Jäger Barn Bar with gluhwein, mulled cider, hot choc with a shot of Baileys, live music and private igloos.

Clevedon Sunday Market, around Clevedon, Sun 5 Dec

Christmas edition of the monthly food, drinks, designer-maker and vintage market on the hill and by the sea in Clevedon, between the seafront, Hill Road and Alexandra Road. Over 100 stalls. 10am – 2pm.

Christmas at St Nicholas, St Nicholas Markets, Bristol, Fri 10 – Fri 24 Dec

Quirky stalls, street food and historic architecture in Corn Street in the heart of the old city (there’s been a market here since 1743). Outdoor markets with festive stalls from Fri 10 Dec; indoor market from Sun 14 Nov.

All things Alpine, from the Alpine market to an Alpine Lodge. Just no Alps. The Christmas Tree Wonderland free festival trail with 100 glittering trees and illuminations including a walk-through giant tree and ice-skating sounds good though.

Christmas at Mapperton, near Beaminster, Sun 28 Nov

First a perambulation around the romantic valley gardens (Historic Houses Garden of the Year Award 2020), then a shifty at the Christmas market, selling cards, English wines, soy candles, macrame, fudge, honey, brownies, silver jewellery. £5 entry.

All sorts of gifts, crafts, food and drink from local independents, plus Santa in his grotto.

Christmas market at the Symondsbury Estate, near Bridport, Sat 4 & Sun 5 Dec

Combine a browse around the Christmas market with a bracing walk up the iconic Colmer’s Hill, it’s about 45 mins to the top and the fab views of the Dorset countryside. Or you could just have another mince pie.
