In your element

Say hello to Somerset's newest luxury (and truly rural) spa, just voted Best Newcomer in the Good Spa Awards

How exciting. A brand new spa, so good it makes the finals of the Good Spa Guide Awards 2018 within months of opening, and it’s in Somerset. Have you been to the Elements Boutique Spa yet?  Oh but you should…

Part of the Windmill Retreat Estate on the edge of the little village of Middlezoy on the Somerset Levels. You’re surrounded by fields, trees, sometimes some sheep, more fields … er that’s it.

Light-filled, small and perfectly formed. With a panoramic plunge pool, steam room and sauna; four treatment rooms and a relaxation suite – you feel like it’s your own private spa.

…is very warm (this is Somerset) and the staff are lovely – gentle, warm and friendly.

Choose your lunch when you arrive.  Fairly simple stuff – mainly sarnies, a soup, salad and quiche – all with crisps (naughty) and salad garnish.

A changing room with neat grey lockers, a generous rainwater shower, hairdryers and straighteners. There are even a few toiletries if you’ve forgotten your own. Robes are fluffy and white; proper flip flops to match.

My shower head’s bigger than yours.

The plunge pool is spectacular.

Relax on your heated, silver mosaic lounger and enjoy the view. That little hillock you can see in the distance, with a ruined church on the top, is Burrow Mump, the Levels’ answer to Glastonbury Tor.

Even the sauna’s got a view (and I don’t mean of that podgy woman in a robe – who is she?).

The mosaic-tiled steam room smelled deliciously of menthol-eucalpytus and the experience shower has mini waterfalls and jets of water coming from every which way.

Lots to tempt – facials, massage, scrubs and wraps – using Aromatherapy Associates products *sigh*.  Also on offer, wellbeing relaxation therapies using Made for Life Organics, the Cornish company which makes its 100% organic products from natural herbs, flowers and oils.

My Ultimate Aromatherapy Experience with Amber started at the head and moved down to the toes. Apparently it’s a combo of Swedish and neuro-muscular techniques and carefully applied pressure to stimulate the nervous system and enhance circulation. Whatever, it was heaven for the next hour.

Couldn’t take a pic of the room where it happens (someone was being pampered) but you can have a pedicure or manicure with Nailberry breathable nail polish.  This season’s colours are popping.

Spoiled for choice where to chill afterwards. Here in the foyer or out on the terrace…

…where the lime and orange water is as chilled as you’ll be.

Or you could hang out in here in the relaxation suite. See those little shot glasses on the table? That’s fresh fruit plum juice with cinnamon, sweet and tangy.

Bi-fold doors open up an entire wall.

Just time for a spot of relaxing colouring in before lunch.

The homemade quiche was excellent. That’s pink lemonade in the glass.

Not just lunch: breakfasts, homemade cakes, local Smith & Evans wines plus the usual teas, coffees and cold drinks at in The Levels Country Kitchen at the foot of the spa.

Did I mention the prosecco? They have prosecco. Sit outside if you want to catch the last Indian summer rays.

Good for:  Pampering with friends, your mum – or just you and your book. Come for a single treatment, a half day, a full day, at sundown or stay the night: there are five self-contained chalets nearby. Larger groups (hen parties?) can have the place to themselves. Touch therapy relaxation treatment is suitable for people living with cancer.

Not for: Anyone wanting to combine a quick spa treatment with a day out shopping; you’re pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Not for the super shy – the changing is communal.

The damage:  A 60-minute Ultimate Aromatherapy Experience costs £70; Relax and Revive Half Day with unlimited spa, 60 mins treatment, manicure/pedicure. £110. Elements Retreat Full Day, unlimited spa, 90 mins treatment, light lunch, manicure/pedicure. £150. Nailberry manicure, 45 mins £4o. They always have lots of offers.

Open every day from 10am – 8pm.

Elements Boutique Spa, Main Rd, Middlezoy, Bridgwater TA7 0PD. Tel 01823 698951.

I was just here for afternoon tea for my friends baby shower! It was the first I’d heard of it and the food was gorgeous. Will definitely be coming back for the spa! 🙂

You’ve summed Elements Boutique Spa up perfectly. It truly is like having your own personal luxury spa. Gorgeous all round, I LOVE it! Their monthly Facebook offers are fabulously generous too 😀
