Free 3-week cardio barre course: week 1

Want to burn off the bloat but gyms are closed and Zoom classes are a WiFi nightmare? Get your trainers on for our FREE three-week online cardio barre course with Somerset fitness instructor Anna Bucknall.

Cardio barre is a high intensity but gentle fitness discipline inspired by ballet (but don’t let that put you off, you can have two left feet, and there’s not a tutu or classical violin in sight). Somerset-based Anna Bucknall‘s brilliant cardio barre video classes will ‘sculpt’ your muscles, improve your posture, make you feel good (and give you a perkier bottom and flatter stomach), all accompanied by a fab playlist – and she’s giving away a free three-week course to Muddy readers.

cardio barre

Annie from Team Muddy Dorset & Somerset has been doing the classes for the past 10 weeks and absolutely loves them because ‘they’re fun, make you feel good and they’re ‘doable’, even if you’re coming to exercise for the first time in ages (or ever). You don’t have to get your body into awkward positions like in yoga; the discipline lengthens your muscles so you don’t start to feel chunky – the exercises actually make you feel elegant.’

Want to have a go? Sessions only take half an hour. Wear what you want, do them when you want and no one needs to watch you.

All you need is a bit of space and either the back of a chair or a worktop for extra stability. This also helps you to work the muscles more deeply and increase how low you can go with squats and lunges.

Make sure you have some weights. A set of 2kg and 1kg is ideal but bottles of water or cans of beans will do.

Follow each class two or three times and you’ll see and feel an improvement each time.  Each video targets the muscles slightly differently so you never get bored and your body is always being pushed to its maximum.

Anna’s series of 30-minute videos (updated regularly and all available on her website), provide a week-by-week course to follow at home.

Just click on this link and enter the password muddy to start your first free 30-minute cardio barre class, which you can access as many times as you like.

Oh, hello muscles – there you are! 😂 I’ve not been able to go my HIIT classes or the gym for the past ten months and my fitness routines have just dropped off. Decided to give this a shot and absolutely loved it! It was a hard slog, given how I’ve let things go, but I completed the session and feel very good about myself. The routines aren’t overly complicated, which is great for me, but are at the right level to require you to focus and work hard. Thank you so much.

Is this suitable for pregnancy, too? (5 months routine pregnancy)

Hi Laura, I would not recommend my cardio barre classes if you are pregnant but I would definitely try my barrecore classes. Do take a look at my website. Congratulations and I hope all goes well.
