<p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DMMrT5rC4fg/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Salt Pig</a> will sort you out with meat from Purbeck farms, fish from local day boats, crab and lobster from Kimmeridge Bay, veggies, deli stuff, delish cakes and more. Wareham Quay market, with food, flowers and collectibles for sale every Saturday morning, is worth a wander. Find zero waste shopping and health/organic foods at <a href="https://www.barenecessitiesdorset.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bear Necessities</a>, fresh bread at <a href="https://theitalianbakery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Italian Bakery</a> and a great garden centre with 15 acres of landscaped gardens at <a href="https://www.holmeforgardens.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Holme for Gardens</a>. For supermarket shopping there is a Sainsbury&#8217;s – the nearest Waitrose is 20 mins away in Poole.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>You have some of the best walking and riding in the country on your doorstep here, plus kayaking and paddle-boarding on the River Frome. <a href="https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/w/purbeck-sports-centre" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Purbeck Sports Centre</a> has a pool, gym, courts and classes. No excuse not to keep fit in Wareham. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>There are loads of clubs and associations from theatre, badminton and swimming to a yacht club (of course).  There&#8217;s a carnival, a flower, produce and craft show and a duck race every summer, plus Christmas lights and a parade.</p>

<p>Where to start?  Discover the town&#8217;s history in the little museum and walk around the earth-covered ancient Saxon walls. The Isle of Purbeck is stuffed with fab things to see and do – Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and lesser-known but also stunningly lovely spots on the iconic Jurassic Coast are a 20-min drive away – or take the open-top bus in summer. Birders and nature lovers get your binoculars out at <a href="https://www.rspb.org.uk/days-out/reserves/arne/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RSPB Arne Nature Reserve</a>, the heathland of Wareham Forest and <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/dorset/brownsea-island" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brownsea Island</a>. </p>



<p>Corfe Castle makes a lovely day out, and check out the water and mud trails of the <a href="https://www.dorsetadventurepark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dorset Adventure Park</a>. Take your little monkeys to see the rescued apes and orangutans at Monkey World and the animals and activities at <a href="https://www.farmerpalmers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Farmer Palmer&#8217;s</a> farm park. Like tanks or know someone who does? The world’s biggest collection is at the <a href="https://tankmuseumshop.org/?srsltid=AfmBOorvvebpVpx_sJvEQ7cqDQkEibsnOynfL84xByC4DZAXG5HtZi6D" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tank Museum</a>, or wander by beautiful blue waters and woodlands at the iconic Dorset beauty spot <a href="https://bluepooltearooms.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Blue Pool</a>. <p>There is an independent cinema in town, the glorious Art Deco <a href="https://www.therex.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rex</a>. You could be watching a famous comedian, West End show on tour, a live screening or a band at <a href="https://www.lighthousepoole.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lighthouse Poole</a>, one of the best arts centres on the South Coast, in less than half an hour. The <a href="https://purbeckfilm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Purbeck Film Festival</a> shows movies in venues around the Isle of Purbeck. See the best of local (and some international) artists – and artistes – during <a href="https://purbeckartweeksfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Purbeck Art Weeks</a>. Folk, roots and world music lovers will enjoy the annual family-friendly <a href="https://www.purbeckvalleyfolkfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Purbeck Valley Folk Festival</a>. <a href="https://dorset.campbestival.net/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=22880176730&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw5JXFBhCrARIsAL1ckPsO-EBSFSdXH0LKWq5x3YF46L0FWtzFcQmEhFOqXvt044_dnCijMLwaAq4dEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Camp Bestival</a>, a super family music fest, takes place every summer at Lulworth Castle.</p>

<p>Georgian properties lie mostly within the old town walls, with more modern houses around the station. Houses sold for an average of £371,521 last year, with detached homes selling for an average £496,936, semis for £343,500 and terraced for £312,382.</p>

The independent preps (below) all have nurseries, too. </p>

<p>State primaries <a href="https://www.warehamstmary.dorset.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wareham St Mary Church of England Primary School</a>, <a href="https://www.sandfordprimary.dorset.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sandford St Martin&#8217;s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School</a> and <a href="https://www.stoborough.dorset.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stoborough Church of England Primary School</a> are all rated Ofsted Good. State secondary <a href="https://www.purbeck.wessex.ac/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Purbeck School </a>was rated Good pre-2024 and found to be even better in 2025. <p>TE Lawrence, AKA Lawrence of Arabia, lived just up the road at <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/dorset/clouds-hill" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cloud&#8217;s Hill</a>, which you can visit.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Unlike most parts of Dorset, there&#8217;s a railway station in town, which will take you to London Waterloo in around 2 hrs 20 mins, or Bournemouth, Dorchester and Poole within half an hour –&nbsp;then you can ferry it over to France if you fancy.</p>
