<p>One of the big interiors trends for 2023 is the pairing of vintage and antique textures and designs with contemporary pieces. Right on time comes the <a href="http://www.bathdecorativeantiquesfair.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Bath Decorative Antiques Fair</strong></a>, on at the Bath Pavilion from Thurs 9 to Sat 11 March. </p>



<p>With around 40 of the UK’s top dealers and a wide range of stuff and styles – furniture, decorative arts, garden ornaments and more – from rustic via country house and industrial to mid-century modern and beyond, it&#8217;s the ideal place to find unique (and some weird and wonderful) pieces to revamp your home. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why the vintage/contemporary combo?</h2>



<p>Mixing vintage furniture, lighting and other decorative stuff with modern design adds a uniqueness, depth (and dare we say &#8216;character&#8217;?) to a room that you&#8217;re just not going to achieve with a bland all-matching interior.  And you&#8217;ll placate that ever-present eco guilt by buying vintage too. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-anything-goes">Anything goes </h2>



<p>Choose stuff that you love –  even if it&#8217;s not someone else&#8217;s taste – and don&#8217;t be nervous of mixing eras. Seventies and Eighties design may be hot right now but your taste might run from rustic to Regency antiques, mid-century design, industrial chic&#8230;Swedish painted furniture. Go for it!</p>

<p>Look for stuff of similar hues to bring an eclectically decorated room together, like a painting with colours in it that match other cushions, rugs, ornaments or furnishings. </p>

<p>Avoid the frustration of falling in love with an antique or other piece and then not knowing whether it will fit into your space. Or worse, buying it, getting it home and discovering that it won&#8217;t. Make a note of relevant dimensions and take a measure with you.</p>

<p>A trip to an antiques fair or market makes for an super enjoyable day out. You never know what you&#8217;re going to find; you can really see what you&#8217;re getting – you can open drawers and cupboard doors, try out chairs, feel the texture of a fabric – and you can pick up tips from those in the know. And if you&#8217;re visiting the Bath Decorative Antiques Fair, there are all of Bath&#8217;s incredible cafes and restaurants to head to afterwards.</p>
