Arbor Restaurant, Bournemouth

Michelin-listed, all day dining – honest, simple food imaginatively cooked – to be leisurely enjoyed in Zen surroundings.

The Arbor at The Green House Hotel in Bournemouth is a little oasis. It’s where to come to sit back, chill and enjoy great food – 2 AA rosettes, a Michelin Plate and more – not revere it.

Andy Hilton (who trained in Bath at The Royal Crescent Hotel, under Gordon Jones) heads up the kitchen and produces ‘simple, honest food, imaginatively cooked’ using fish and seafood off the Dorset coast, meat from Wiltshire, game from the New Forest, veg and dairy from Dorset and neighbouring counties – of it beautifully presented.

Just as The Green House Hotel was developed on sustainable principles – from the building materials and heating down to the hives on the roof – the same ethos applies to the Arbor, where chefs use as much organic, Fairtrade and farm assured produce as possible. The name, which is Latin for ‘tree’, echoes their eco attitudes and love for the countryside.

Open all day for relaxed dining, come for a leisurely lunch – or speedy one if you’re on your lunch hour – from 12.30pm to 2pm; pastry chef James is responsible for the delicacies that comprise their afternoon teas, served from 2pm to 4.30pm; then it’s time for the a la carte menu starting at 5pm.

Children are welcome up until 7pm, after which it’s an adults-only space (nice).
