Compton Acres, Poole

Ten glorious acres, with five themed gardens from around the world, café, pizzeria, deli, garden centre and gift shop. Workshops, events, weddings and holiday stays. All bases covered.

Established in the 1920s, Compton Acres in Poole is one of the UK’s most beautiful ornamental gardens. There are five themed gardens reflecting the world travels of the original owner and over 3,000 species of herbaceous plant, shrubs and trees (some of which you won’t find anywhere else in Dorset).

Go for a stroll around The Italian Garden, The Wooded Valley, The Rock & Water Garden, The Heather Garden and The Japanese Garden; each has its own unique plants, features and atmosphere.  In between, there are sculptures, a sub-tropical area, hosta walk, bog garden, grotto palm court and children’s activity area. Here’s a map.

Come for home-cooked breakfast, brunch, lunches and their famous afternoon teas in the licensed café. Scoff wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas in Mare Luna pizzeria. Treat yourself to something special; their 8-course tasting menus at the pop-up Club Otto sound amazing.

Take part in a workshop or event – they’re all year around – including stuff for kids in the school holidays. Get married or hold a party in the The Italian Villa. Shop for gifts, delicatessen and plants. Stay in The Summer House, a period cottage sleeping six with a balcony overlooking Poole Harbour.

Compton Acres is open every day of the year apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Check their website for opening hours.
