Housed in an old farm building, this rustic restaurant has farm stuff on the walls, very good nosh on the tables, country style rooms – and its own gin!

You’ll get a crash course in farming of yesteryear from the old farm implements and photos on the walls while you enjoy Jane Bond’s delicious, award-winning food at the New Farm Restaurant. Located in the picture postcard village of Over Stratton in south Somerset, it’s just off the A303 and easily reachable from Yeovil and Taunton.

The old hamstone building used to be a working farm run by Jane’s family since the late 1880s (hence the farm vibe), until she and husband Crispin converted it into a rustic style restaurant with three, dog-friendly, country-style guest rooms.

Jane uses all locally produced and sourced ingredients – some from their own kitchen garden – in her cooking. Crispin keeps bees, makes the bread and helps out sister Sue front of house. They even have their own New Farm Gin! All of this has won numerous Taste of the West Awards, most recently a Gold in 2021 and previously, South West Best Restaurant and No 1 Place to Go in 2018.

Open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and for lunch on Fridays and Sundays, with monthly Ladies’ Lunches (two courses and an assiette of puddings – nice!) on the second Thursday of every month. Speciality nights with food themed from around the world on the first Thursday. The first floor is perfect for parties and larger groups. They’ll cater for your own event too.
