Rise, West Bay
The laid-back waterside café and bar is a cosy bolthole serving delicious coffee, hearty food and craft drinks – and the perfect spot for a sundowner.

Perched on its own little island in the heart of West Bay near Bridport and just a stone’s throw from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is Rise – a cosy bolthole with panoramic river views, making lingering over your morning coffee feel almost impossible to resist. Think simple food, great coffee, craft beers and cocktails, with an open kitchen keeping dinner and a show securely on the menu. Whether you’re fuelling up with breakfast, nursing a hangover brunch, or settling in for burger night, there’s every excuse to hang around for a while.
Picture this: boho charm mixed with a snuggly vibe – there’s wooden furniture, colourful interiors, leafy plants and candlelights everywhere creating the perfect spot for people watching and nattering. Outside, the sheltered decking catches the sea breeze perfectly – think sun loungers for soaking up the sunshine, a log burner inside for the colder months, and plenty of room for furry friends to join. With beach and some indie shops nearby, so why not have a walk or a browse before stopping off for a coffee and something sweet.
Opening its doors in 2018 by Richard Cooper, Nikki Craven, Andy Briggs and Kyle Clarke – Rise comes from the successful hospitality team who launched The Stable pizza chain, SWIM in Lyme Regis, and The Bull Hotel in Bridport – so you know this café bar is in good hands. Expect everything from breakfast brioches and burgers to local fish and chips, ribs, wings, and Asian-inspired twists on house dishes. There’s also a range of gluten-free options and seriously tempting desserts to finish off. And to wash it all down try their beers and ciders that have a nod to their roots, or make the most of Wednesday’s two cocktails for £18 – because one is never enough.
Ready for to settle in to the best sundowner spot you could imagine?
