The Kitchen Garden

Bespoke private dining (from sophisticated suppers to wild parties), cookery courses, and food/yoga/flowers/art combo packages from two super Somerset chefs united by a single passion – fabulous food.

Somerset private chefs Carol and Miranda love food. Healthy, organic food, made with the fresh and locally sourced, seasonal ingredients for which Somerset is famous. Luckily for the rest of us, they want to pass that passion on.

The culinary duo, who’ve both been cooking professionally since their 20s, certainly know their onions. Carol, a highly skilled pastry chef, has worked as a head chef in some of Somerset’s best-loved restaurants (including Hestercombe Gardens), and is renowned for her cakes, puddings and jams. She loves foraging on walks, growing and cooking any vegetable, fruit or berry.

Cookbook author Miranda has food in her genes – her mother is food writer Tamasin Day-Lewis – and has travelled and cooked around the world for 20 years. She’s trained with some of the best in the West Country,  worked at Highgrove for Prince Charles and as a private chef for Sir James Dyson, before setting up the kitchen at The Firehouse Somerset – which is where she met Carol.

Carol and Miranda will come to your own home or when you’re having a weekend or longer away in Somerset, Dorset or Devon – and cook up bespoke, original three to five-course menus for between 4 and 20 people. No shopping, no cooking, no washing up.

We’re talking everything from brilliant brunches through sophisticated suppers to wild parties. For families, groups of friends, hen and stag parties, company away days, shoots and business meetings. Each menu is tailormade to individual tastes, requirements and dietary needs, but this sample menu will give you an idea of the sort of stuff they do (ie it’s inventive and delicious). Their seasonal five-coursers with wine flights from British and local wine and cider makers sound sensational.

At their Kitchen Garden Cookery School, they’ll teach you how to bake artisan bread and cakes, make pasta and pastry, veggie food, curries from scratch, picnic food, canapes and more ( see the upcoming courses here), around a big farmhouse kitchen table at Miranda’s husband’s family biz, Sandpits Heating Centre in Curry Rivel.

They put together incredible packages for girls: yoga and brunch with Jo Ellis of Pure Yoga Somerset; Cocktails and Canapés; painting and lunch workshops with artist Karen Huwen;  and flower workshops and lunch with Florist Kate Knott from the Floral Shaker.
