The Oyster & Fish House, Lyme Regis

Mark Hix serves up fresh, local fish and seafood with a side order of the panoramic view of Lyme’s iconic Cobb and the Jurassic Coast.

Mark Hix has nabbed one of Lyme’s most spectacular spots for his Oyster & Fish House. Perched up on the hillside overlooking The Cobb and Jurassic Coast beyond, the views really are fab-u-lous (and so is the food).

Take a seat in the super relaxed, light and airy dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the sea or out on the wraparound terrace.

This place does what it says on the can: locally landed fish and seafood on menus which change twice a day depending on the catch. After starters that might include Lyme Bay scallops and fritto misto, tuck into your main course. Expect lots of chargrilled fish on the bone – maybe mackerel, Thornback ray, plaice, cod or haddock. There’s always scrumpy fried fish (we’re in the West country after all) and a fillet of fish dish on the menu. Or how about some local lobster? Vegans and veggies aren’t left out, either. Desserts are delicious; we can’t decide between a pavlova or Willie’s Rio Caribe chocolate mousse.

There’s always something going on. Come for fresh oysters and a glass of fizz during Oyster Happy Hour, from Tues to Fri 4pm – 5pm, from the end of the summer. Meet and eat food cooked by some of the UK’s top chefs every month.  Take a seat at Mark’s Kitchen Table, where Mark will cook you a six-course lunch with wine in his own home in Charmouth. Buy a range of Hix smoked fish online. You can even get married at The Oyster and Fish House.
