The Pig-near Bath, Pensford
Super-relaxed country house restaurant with rooms – where everything you eat comes from their own kitchen garden or 25 miles beyond – set in a glorious 30-acre deer park in Somerset’s Mendip Hills.

Set within 30 acres of deer park in the rolling Mendip Hills, THE PIG-near Bath is country house luxury with a mischievous wink. Just outside Pensford (around eight miles from Bath), this one leans into a tongue-in-cheek “retired military gent” aesthetic – oil paintings, faux trophy heads and fishing memorabilia – all done with that knowing PIG charm rather than full tweed overload.
Food is front and centre, naturally. The Conservatory restaurant champions the brand’s famous 25-mile menu, with produce grown in the kitchen garden or sourced from Somerset’s formidable roster of farmers and producers. Think Longman’s butter and blue cheese from North Leaze Farm, local ales and bread from Bertinet Bakery, alongside estate-grown fruit and veg. Start with Piggy Bits in the bar, settle in for a long lunch, or book out The Old Dining Room or Billiards Room for a proper celebration.
There are 29 rooms across the Main House and Coach House, spanning Snug to Big Comfy Luxe, all with monsoon showers, vintage finds and super-squishy beds. For something more secluded, The Apple Store and The Hide – two-storey rustic retreats with wood burners tucked in the kitchen garden – are the romantic heavy hitters.
And when you’ve eaten your fill? The Potting Shed treatment rooms await for botanical facials and restorative massages. Children are welcome, dogs can roam the grounds (just not the restaurant or bedrooms), and the overall vibe is gloriously relaxed. Mendip magic, done the Pig way.
