Things are changing at the extraordinary, pioneering contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth Somerset, which occupies a former farmstead on the edge of Bruton. The renowned and beloved Roth Bar & Grill has gone – with a new restaurant to be launched in the autumn of 2024 (watch this space) – and a new, super cool Roth Bar just opened.

Located within an old threshing barn, this is no ordinary bar (well it wouldn’t be would it, this is Hauser & Wirth) but a fully functioning, site-specific artwork created by Oddur Roth, grandson of the late German-born Swiss artist Dieter Roth. Made with salvaged materials and objects from reclamation yards in the surrounding area, it’s simply stunning, don’t you agree? 

Come to refresh body and spirit in equal measure, in a relaxed, everyone-welcome atmosphere.

The food and drink celebrates Somerset and the West Country with signature and classic cocktails, wine from their vineyard (we love the Maid of Bruton Bacchus, sparkling rosé), cider from their orchards, and juices and cordials from plants grown in their walled garden.

Enjoy cheese and charcuterie sharing boards, seasonal plates (like the Roth Bar smash burger and broad bean falafel), bar snacks as well as pastries and sweets,. Everything’s made with produce sourced from Durslade Farm’s own rare breed flocks and herds, herbs and vegetables grown on-site as well as from the area’s best local suppliers.

Throughout the summer there are DJ sessions on Wednesdays and some Saturdays, and fire feasts and live acoustic jazz on Sundays. Check the dates and times here.

No need to book; it’s walk in only.

Opening hours: Wed to Sun 10am – 11pm. Kitchen Wed to Sat 12pm – 9pm; Sun 12pm – 7pm (food from the fire until 3pm). Bar snacks and pastries are served all day.
