Dorset, Somerset &amp; Bristol


<p>Not only does Millfield produces more Olympians than any other school in the UK, it also boasts the nationally recognised <a href="http://www.atkinsongallery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Atkinson Gallery</a>, which holds contemporary art exhibitions open to the public. Andy Warhol, Sir Antony Caro and Dame Elisabeth Frink have all been exhibited here. It’s your archetypal white cube gallery, all high ceilings and big expanses of white, white walls. On a school campus. In little ol&#8217; Somerset.</p>



<p>The idea for their latest exhibition, <a href="https://www.millfieldschool.com/atkinson-gallery/future-exhibitions" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Darkness to Hope</a> (Mon 27 Feb to Thurs 30 March) was suggested by a Millfield pupil, Lucy Meyer. Marking our emergence from the pandemic and promoting the positive influence that art can have on our wellbeing, the exhibition features works in a variety of media, made by artists from the UK and beyond – and it&#8217;s all for sale. All monies raised from the artist&#8217;s submissions go to a very good cause: Yeovil District Hospital Children’s Unit.</p>



<p>Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s still enjoyable to have a browse around the gallery – and you’re only a few minutes away from the shops and cafes in Clark’s Village, if that tempts.</p>

<p>Trained at the Falmouth College of Art and Royal College of Art, Jenny is inspired by her observations of the natural world and makes most of her beautifully coloured works with a screenprinting press.</p>

<p>The Bath-based multi-disciplinary artist and designer&#8217;s sub title says it all: cathartic release, letting go of trauma, expulsion, bleeding your emotional radiators. </p>

<p>It may not come as a surprise to discover that Carolyn King has not only exhibited her work at places like The Royal Academy and The Mall Galleries but she&#8217;s also an illustrator and writer of children&#8217;s books.</p>

<p>New Yorker Randy Klinger, now based in Scotland, is dedicated to &#8216;helping others experience beauty viscerally, as a body-response; to alleviate pain and fear in people’s lives through beauty&#8217;. </p>

<p>The Somerset-based artist, an Academician of The Royal West of England Academy, has works in collections around the world and is known for his dream-like, timeless paintings.</p>



<p>The exhibition is open Mon – Thurs, 9.30am-5pm from Mon 27 Feb to Thurs 30 March.  Admission free; you have to go through the school Gatehouse.&nbsp; Easy parking right opposite.</p>
