Girls’ day out at Jordans Courtyard

Take a yoga class, have a beauty treatment, make a Christmas wreath, enjoy good food and drink – with a spot of Crimbo shopping to boot, at Somerset's newest eat-shop-wellness destination

With a great cafe, day spa, yoga barn with classes, garden nursery with workshops, an interiors shop and more – all in pretty stone barns – Jordans Courtyard in Ilminster is the rural alternative to a girls’ day out in Bath.

Don’t know about you but first up, I need a coffee…

Take a seat inside The Old Calf Shed cafe (no baby cows here now) or out on the terrace if you’re wrapped up warm. The coffee is excellent (they use their own special blend) and so are the homemade pastries. You could have one of their famous full English breakfasts or be good and wait until lunch.

Let’s get started. Feeling creative? Angie from Cottage Flowers in Ilminster and now also here at The Cottage Garden, is holding morning Christmas workshops throughout November. You could be making door wreaths, mantelpiece garlands, centre pieces – even a festive chandelier. To book, call 01460 53020.

Alternatively, stroll around The Cottage Garden, buy some plants, pots or gardening gifts or just spend a few minutes in peaceful contemplation.

Spot of retail therapy? You might not want to buy anyone a sofa for Christmas (though their bespoke ones are so fab you might be tempted to treat yourself) but we love Old Mill Furniture & Interiors‘ range of home accessories and gifts.

Bespoke cushions, anyone? Weave & Wood will make you some..

If you want to ask Santa for a new kitchen, have a nose in Hillview Kitchens. Brides to be: one of Somerset’s finest wedding dress designers Kate Walker’s Bridal Rooms are in the Farmhouse (by appointment only).

Get into the zone with a session in The Yoga Barn, a peaceful, dedicated practice space with *sigh* underfloor heating.

All sorts of classes – yoga, pilates, tai chi – for all abilities, from Wednesday to Saturday every week.

Ready for lunch?

The food at The Old Calf Shed is simple, seasonal, local and always delicious. For a taster of what’s in the menu: sourdough pizzas (like this nduja, caramelised onion and ricotta one), warming veggie (butternut squash & pesto risotto), meat dishes (belly pork with cauli & potato mash and red cabbage) and indulgent desserts (like Eton Mess). Booze? Of course! You can book a table.

Treat yourself to a massage, facial and beauty treatment using skincare by Elemis and local brand MAKE in the Day Spa or an have an OPI manicure or a pedicure – 30, 60 and 90 min treatments – in the Nail Loft.

There’s always something going. The Somerset Collective‘s pop up Christmas sale – 30 fab indie designer-makers and local producers from around the South West, in support of local charity The Rosie Crane Trust – will be here on Sun 14 & Mon 15 Nov from 10am to 4pm.

If you’re there on a Saturday, don’t leave without taking home a box of luxury pastries from the Baked By The Pastry Bench pop up.

Jordans Courtyard is open from Tuesday through to Sunday, from 9am – 3pm. Old Mill Furniture & Interiors from Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. Weave and Wood, call 07710 699778 for an appointment.
