<p>What’s new in the ‘hood? In this month’s newsflash, we bring you new restaurants, bars, a boutique stay, shops and a brilliant new arts and cultural space. Shall we? </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-grape-expectations">Grape expectations</h2>



<p>You&#8217;re sitting on a terrace on a hillside vineyard, with spectacular views across the countryside, sipping a glass of chilled rosé made with grapes picked from the vines and nibbling locally made cheeses and charcuterie. Not the south of France it turns out but <a href="https://wraxallvineyard.co.uk/bookings-for-the-view/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The View@Wraxall</a>, a new wine bar on the <a href="https://wraxallvineyard.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wraxall Vineyard</a> near Shepton Mallet. </p>

<p>The vineyard, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, produces award-winning wine including Somerset Sparkling, Early Pinot Noir Rosé, Estate Bacchus and Bacchus ‘Un’ Reserved 2022 and has paired with local producers for a sharing boards and small plates menu. </p>

<p>The wine bar is open Weds to Sat, 11am-6pm from April to Sept and Weds to Sat, 11am to 5pm from October to March. <a href="https://wraxallvineyard.co.uk/whats-on/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Events</a> include Pizza on the Vines on the first Friday of the month, Sunset Drinks on Fridays, and wines, cocktails and deli bites on Sundays on the Vines. Wine tastings and tours Weds – Sat from April to October.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-laze-around-at-the-lido">Laze around at the Lido</h2>

<p>The new boutique hotel located in a Georgian townhouse close to the Lido has just five cool, calm and relaxing rooms with espresso machine, organic toiletries, robes, slippers and all.  Book a Sunday or Monday and the pool and spa are free; otherwise you pay just 15 quid. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner poolside, obvs. </p>

<p><a href="https://thesherborne.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Sherborne</a>, which opened formally last Tuesday in the centre of guess where, is rather good. Within the walls of the 18th century Palladian mansion, outbuildings and sparkling contemporary additions, you&#8217;ll find galleries and rooms for art <a href="https://thesherborne.uk/exhibitions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">exhibitions</a>, a performance/events space with curved wooden ceiling (which can also be hired for weddings) and <a href="https://thesherborne.uk/eat-drink/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Macready&#8217;s restaurant and bar</a>. </p>

<p>A large gift shop sells cool-not-twee stuff (lots by local designer-makers like Christina Oswin jewellery and Gather wool blankets), there&#8217;s a courtyard with an Elisabeth Frink sculpture, more sculpture out in the garden, the swankiest ladies’ loos in Dorset and * pause for breath * &#8230;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-something-fishy-in-castle-cary">Something fishy in Castle Cary</h2>



<p>The Michelin-listed fish and seafood restaurant in Chew Magna that Bristolians flock to, <a href="https://www.lazylobstercastlecary.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lazy Lobster</a> is extending its claws further south with a new restaurant in Castle Cary, south Somerset opening soon. </p>

<p>Expect small plates of sustainably sourced griddled octopus, Brixham scallops, Fowey mussels, grilled monkfish, Szechuan salt and pepper king prawns, oysters&#8230;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-all-change-in-bruton">All change in Bruton</h2>



<p>With boutique hotel <a href="https://numberonebruton.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">N</a><a href="https://numberonebruton.com/">umber One Bruton&#8217;</a>s imminent expansion (new rooms, new dining – watch this space), Merlin Labron-Johnson&#8217;s <a href="https://osiprestaurant.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Osip </a>(Michelin 1 star and Green star) is soon moving to a new location – but will the transformation of the former Bull Inn at Hardway be ready in time?  Last service in Bruton is lunch on Sun 30 June.</p>

<p>Meanwhile over at Hauser &amp; Wirth, one of our favourite restaurants, the Roth Bar &amp; Grill, is being reborn on Sat 25 May as the <a href="https://rothbar.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Roth Bar</a>, serving drinks and snacks, in the Threshing Barn. Central will be a site-specific art installation made from salvaged materials and objects from reclamation yards, created by Oddur Roth, grandson of the late German-born Swiss artist&nbsp;Dieter Roth. See you there? </p>

Wagamama&#8217;s Korean-style hot pots, gyoza dumplings, classic katsu and cocktails are coming to Somerset&#8217;s outlet shopping destination <a href="https://clarksvillage.co.uk/food-and-drink/wagamama" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clarks Village</a> in Street on  Mon 22 July.</p>
