<p>We were sad to see the Mexican-inspired pub The Pricky Pear in Bruton close its doors a few months ago. Now the team have opened a Japanese-inspired restaurant <a href="https://www.inoshishi.co/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inoshishi Izakaya</a> on Frome&#8217;s Market Place, serving small plates, large plates, robata (charcoal grilled), desserts, and bento boxes at lunch. The name? It means &#8216;wild boar with a white moustache&#8217;, which aims to embody the spirit of the place: bold, unique, and unforgettable. It&#8217;s open from Weds to Sat for lunch and dinner. Christmas shopping on Catherine Hill/Cheap Street and bento box combo? </p>

<p>Anyone else addicted to BBC&#8217;s <em>MasterChef Professionals</em>?  We&#8217;ve always known that we were a foodie lot down here but we were super excited to discover so many local chefs competing for the title this year.  Ayesha (above) is Chef Patron of the <a href="https://queenofcups.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queen of Cups</a> in Glastonbury, where they serve sharing plates inspired by Ayesha&#8217;s Arabic roots. Australian-born Kasae is Head Chef of <a href="https://www.robun.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Robun</a> in Bath, a Japanese restaurant renowned for its meat, seafood and vegetables grilled over a traditional robata charcoal fire.  Simon is Head Chef at modern European restaurant <a href="https://thelarderhouse.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Larderhouse </a>in Southbourne, Bournemouth.  Weston-super-Mare-based Tommy was Head Chef at the recently expired walled garden restaurant <a href="https://theethicurean.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ethicurean</a> in Wrington. With Ayesha, Kasae and Tommy through to the next round, we&#8217;ll be watching –&nbsp;and drooling over&nbsp;– their progress through the coming weeks. </p>

<p>Idris Elba, Lily James, Jude Law and Sheridan Smith all started off at the famous National Youth Music Theatre. Now they&#8217;re looking for dynamic performers aged 10-23 for their 2024 season, which will include productions of <em>Into the Woods</em> and <em>Our House: the Madness Musical.</em> They&#8217;re auditioning throughout the UK, with <a href="https://nymt.org.uk/auditions/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">auditions in Bristol on Sat 6 Jan.</a></p>
