<p>Sometimes called &#8216;Lower Clifton&#8217;, this vibrant and arty hub in the centre of the city, south of the river Avon, has become increasingly gentrified and popular with young professionals and families over the years, with independent restaurants, cafes, delis and bars along North Street  and <a href="https://www.upfest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Upfest</a>, the famous urban paint festival – though no one seems exactly sure where Southville ends and Bedminster begins. Slope over Gaol Ferry Bridge and you&#8217;re in <a href="https://www.wappingwharf.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wapping Wharf</a> and Bristol Harbourside with more indies, masses of brilliant restaurants and some of the city&#8217;s leading galleries and museums. </p>

<p>North Street is at the heart of the community. People decorate and light up their windows as part of a Window Wanderland walking trail in February.  Masses of people take part in the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade in December.</p>

Comedy and live music at <a href="https://www.henandchicken.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Hen &amp; Chicken</a>. Europe’s largest street art and graffiti festival, <a href="https://www.upfest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Upfest,</a> runs every other year. Over 100 local artists exhibit in venues around BS3 on the <a href="https://southbristolarts.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">South Bristol Arts Trail</a>.
