<p>The MICHELIN Guide Great Britain &amp; Ireland has just revealed its 2026 restaurant section. Altogether, there are 1,210&nbsp;restaurants – including 230 with stars – with lots in London (no surprise), but a delicious sprinkling of awards in Somerset &amp; Bristol too. </p>



<p>The MICHELIN guide is divided into 3, 2 and 1 Stars for outstanding cooking; Green Stars for those with excellence in sustainability as well as in gastronomy; and Bib Gourmands for great value dining. </p>



<p>Aside from Tare Bistro and The Clifton (who sadly both closed down last year), everyone in Somerset and Bristol have retained their stars and other accolades. We also have one new eaterie to add to the list: congratulations to Ragu in Bristol. </p>



<p>So here&#8217;s the full line-up of our local 2026 stars. Release the waistband and hand me a fork, we&#8217;re going in&#8230;.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-osip-near-bruton-one-star-and-green-star"><a aria-label="Osip (opens in a new tab)" href="https://osiprestaurant.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Osip</a>, near Bruton – One Star and Green Star </h2>



<p>Wunderkind chef Merlin Labron-Johnson (Osip’s his Russian middle name) retains his coveted star for his tiny farm-to-table restaurant, turning seasonal ingredients from local farmers, growers, foragers and hunters into deceptively simple Michelin level grub. There are no menus as such, what arrives in the kitchen that morning, is what they&#8217;ll serve for lunch and dinner that day. More than 80% of the menu is vegetarian, food waste is composted to fertilise crops and all wine is low-intervention, biodynamic or organic.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-olive-tree-bath-one-star"><a aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.olivetreebath.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Olive Tree</a>, Bath – One Star  </h2>



<p>In the basement of the elegant, eclectically styled Georgian townhouse Queensberry Hotel, Chris Cleghorn cooks up Modern British in the Olive Tree restaurant and retains his Michelin star for an impressive eighth year.&nbsp; How hungry are you? There&#8217;s a seven-course Taste of the Season menu, down to just a main course with homemade bread and other little treats, with vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and dairy-free versions alongside. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-oak-bath-green-star"><a aria-label="Oak (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.oakrestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oak</a>, Bath – Green Star  </h2>



<p>From little acorns&#8230;.The idea behind this small plates, plant-based restaurant (and grocery) on the site of the former Acorn restaurant, is that the best food puts the earth first, so their ever-changing veggie/vegan menu only uses produce grown on land that&#8217;s been properly farmed, without chemicals. Come for brunch, lunch, coffee and dinner – very good value, though you can push the veggie boat out with a five-course feast.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-exmoor-forest-inn-simonsbath-green-star"><a href="https://exmoorforestinn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Exmoor Forest Inn</a>, Simonsbath – Green Star </h2>



<p>Former Victorian fishing lodge turned pub, the gorgeously refurbed pub in Simonsbath, a remote village in the Exmoor National Park surrounded by hills and moors, has a woodburner bar, Exmoor ales and a menu that includes meat from their own organic farm.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-beckford-bottle-shop-bath-bib-gourmand"><a aria-label="Beckford Bottle Shop (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.beckfordbottleshop.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beckford Bottle Shop</a>, Bath – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Inventive small plates and selections of artisan cheese and charcuterie from their own deli counter, served with a choice of over 30 glasses of wine. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-briar-bruton-bib-gourmand"><a href="http://Briar, Bruton" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Briar</a>, Bruton – Bib Gourmand</h2>



<p>Osip’s former location on Bruton High Street is now home to relative newcomer <a href="https://numberonebruton.com/briar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Briar</a>. Part of hotel&nbsp;<a href="https://numberonebruton.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Number One Bruton</a>,&nbsp;this is the first restaurant of Sam Lomas, former head chef at Glebe House in Devon. Youngest finalist in BBC 2’s&nbsp;<em>The Great British Menu</em>, Finalist in the Roux Scholarship and Code Hospitality 30 under 30 list, he’s busy serving up a daily changing menu of small plates, sharing dishes, snacks and ‘proper puddings’, inspired by super local Somerset produce, and plants foraged and grown in the hotel’s own kitchen garden. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-chequers-bath-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://chequersbath.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Chequers</a>, Bath – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Your archetypal Bath pub in a Georgian terrace serving elegant British cuisine with international touches, pub classics and one of the best places in the city for a Sunday roast. The cocktails are pretty good too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-queen-of-cups-glastonbury-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://queenofcups.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queen of Cups</a>, Glastonbury – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Head chef and co-owner Ayesha Kalaji serves up modern Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes influenced by her Jordanian heritage and Welsh upbringing (hence laverbread falafel with sumac, lime fennel and tahini), in a 17th century inn.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-root-wells-wells-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://www.rootwells.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Root Wells</a>, Wells – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Not wholly vegan or veggie but veg-led, this is the second iteration of the fabulous sharing plates restaurant – the first is in Bristol&#8217;s Wapping Wharf  (see below) – under head chef Rob Howell and his wife and manager Meg Oakley. There are a small number of locally produced meat and fish dishes on the menu but deliciously inventive veggie dishes are the main attraction here. </p>

<p>Just your average neighbourhood restaurant. Not. Sit downstairs near the kitchen in Cotham, where chef/proprietor George Livesey prepares seasonal organic and foraged six and nine-course menus, often using pickled and preserved ingredients.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-wilson-s-one-star-and-green-star"><a aria-label="Wilsons  (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.wilsonsbristol.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wilson&#8217;s </a>– One Star and Green Star </h2>



<p>With a Modern British menu inspired and supplied by the veg, herbs and edible flowers they grow on their nearby two-2 acre field, no wonder this Redland place, owned by partners Jan Ostle (head chef) and Mary Wilson has garnered a coveted Green Star for sustainability. At lunch: menu du jour with a glass of biodynamic wine plus a six-course set menu; at dinner, just the six-courser. The non-alcoholic flight sounds interesting (don&#8217;t worry there&#8217;s a wine one too). </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-box-e-bib-gourmand"><a aria-label="Box-E (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.boxebristol.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BOX-E</a> – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Seasonal modern British grub served up in a pair of shipping containers and a stretch tent on Bristol&#8217;s harbourside, headed up by chef Elliot, formerly head chef of the Michelin-starred L&#8217;Ortolan and at The Empress in East London (two AA rosettes, a Michelin Bib Gourmand and Top 50 Pub accolade). Chose from the a la carte or a seven-course unwritten tasting menu.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cor-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://www.correstaurant.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">COR</a> – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>A cross between a tapas bar and a Mediterranean restaurant in the Bedminster area of the city, husband and wife Karen and Mark Chapman serve small plates – stuff like hake with mussels, sweet Tropea onion with hazelnut beurre noisette – and great charcuterie and cheese. The name? Originating from the Latin word ‘heart’, they aim to &#8216;bring together our love of hospitality&nbsp;in a friendly and welcoming place that is inclusive to all&#8217;.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-little-hollows-pasta-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://www.littlehollowspasta.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Hollows Pasta</a> – Bib Gourmand</h2>



<p>Freshly made pasta – and other artisan Italian dishes – gets the Michelin stamp of approval at this rustic-style joint on Chandos Road. We&#8217;re talking stuff like roast pine nut and White Lake sheep’s curd, Italian peas, semi-dried dates, butter and ricotta salata (above, just before they added the ricotta) rather than spag bol. And it&#8217;s got to be tiramisu for dessert.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-marmo-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://www.marmo.restaurant/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marmo</a> – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>This owner-run osteria-cum-wine-bar in the former Guardian Assurance Building in the middle of Bristol, serves a small but perfectly formed menu of Italian dishes from its open kitchen. Organic and biodynamic wines are on hand to wash it all down. PS You can bring your dog.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-other-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://www.otherrestaurant.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OTHER</a> – Bib Gourmand</h2>



<p>Chef Zak Hitchman (formerly head chef at Casima) serves up eclectic food as as vibrant as the decor (the walls are bright orange) in this casual restaurant with communal tables in Bedminster. The menu changes constantly but to give you a taster, char slu celeriac, roasted sand carrots, confit potatoes and lemon poppyseed doughnut could all be on the menu.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-ragu-bib-gourmand">NEW: <a href="https://www.ragurestaurant.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ragú</a> – Bib Gourmand</h2>



<p>The Italian small plates restaurant, located in a shipping container at foodie hub Wapping Wharf, comes from the same team behind COR (see above), Mark and Karen Chapman. Delish dishes, some of which are cooked over fire, are designed for sharing and reasonably priced, so order lots and start to scoff. </p>

<p>Another container eaterie on the Wapping Wharf, owned by Josh Eggleton (The Pony Group) and Luke Hasell (Story Butchers / Valleyfest). Come for veggie-focused small plate social dining with low-intervention, organic and biodynamic wines to go with. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-blaise-inn-bib-gourmand"><a href="https://theblaiseinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Blaise Inn</a> – Bib Gourmand </h2>



<p>Decision: a walk around the beautiful parklands of the Blaise Castle Estate before or after lunch? This traditional village pub, from a team that includes Louise McCrimmon (previously Executive Chef at Harvey Nichols Bristol), is super close by and serves British classics with modern twists and terrific desserts.</p>
